Windows Vista and AT & T wireless router problem.
I have a laptop that runs Windows Vista. I recently moved and have AT & T UVERSE as my cable provider, with wireless router for the computer. My laptop says I'm "connected" to the internet but when I click on Inernet Explorer, it cannot find the page. The tecnician said that there is something in my computer that is not allowing it to make the actual connection through the wireless, eventhough it recongnizes my wireless network and show "connected" and the signal strength is good. I am so frustrated, I am only able to actually connect when I am hooked up to the hardwire. Anyone have a similar issue? Any suggestions?
Logitech G700/Razer orochi,mamba/roccat pyra
Im in desperate need of a new mouse. I have an older three button logitech but I want wireless cause when ever I game the wires always get tangled up near my laptop also the mouse is just old and doesn't click all the time. I have looked at all the mice know to the market but there isnt anything that even looks worth spending on.
The logitech G700 I have never liked the looks of or the feel of it. I think I may just end up getting it anyway cause it has the micro usb receiver which I definitely need.
The orochi goes to sleep after 2 seconds and lags when it comes to also the bluetooth is not fast enough for my gaming wireless needs. The mamba still uses wires and a huge receiver. Why in gods name can they not make a mamba with a mini micro usb reciever like the roccat pyra or G700. If some new mice would come out that are wireless but no gaming mice are.
Last I have the roccat pyra which suits my needs the most out of all of them but it costs 120 dollars and for that type of mouse is just to expensive for my pockets ala my wallet isnt burning that bright. none of them are worth buying and any other gaming mice dont interest me in the least. Should I just buy a crappy wired cheap gaming mouse till something that suits me better comes out?

What upgrades should I do?
I have a laptop that is a year old or so, and a lot of technology upgrades has happened since then, I have an HP dv7-1267 I switched from Vista to Windows 7. I was wondering what upgrades should I do to make my computer faster and more efficient? I was thinking about adding more RAM but I don't know how much my computer can hold. So can you please help me and tell me what you would do in my situation? If you suggest something can you please explain what it does and the product name.

Any fix for Torn trackpad rubber buttons?
Seems one of my cats got to the rubber buttons on my CF-19 and shredded them.
Just after I got my cool emissive keyboard too. Any repair for these? and is it still watertight? I assume the seal is below the buttons? What should I do slap some electrical tape on there? I still have the little chunks she took out. I could try and silicone it.

Compaq CQ62-220US wlan upgradeable?
I just ordered an Intel 6200 half height wlan card to replace the horrible Atheros that won't even see my 802.11n access point.
I have heard that HP would put a whitelist in the BIOS to thwart wireless card upgrades, apparently completely halting the boot process. Any idea if Compaq does the same thing? I assume the antennae are 2.4 GHz only, so I should just turn off the 5 GHz option? Probably a single radio, so would only work on one freq at a time anyway . . .
I chose the 6200 as I only have two antenna in the laptop, and state-of-the-art three spatial stream wireless is probably not worth the custom modification, especially in light of the fact my Engenius EAP9550 only has two antennae.

Lenovo T61p adding copper shim to GPU?
Hi Guys,
I bought a very clean t61p. Graphics chip seams to be good but I would like to make it last longer and improve the heat dissipation.
I have successfully reflowed a hp dv2000 and replaced the heat pad with a 0.8mm copper shim.
I am wondering has anyone added a copper shim to their lenovo t61p or other lenovos.
Information on modding hp dv series is well documented, not so for lenovos.
If anyone has any advice on it I would appreicate it.

Norton 360 Update hanging everything
I recently accepted an update of Norton 360 and ever since, everything has slowed to the point of hanging. I need to reboot several times a day. I'm assuming since nothing else changed this problem is related to the Norton update. I've already disabled the email add-ons which slowed Outlook Express opening to about 5 minutes, and the browser add-ons which also slowed all searches. But now I'm still getting screen freezes, and even shutting down the system hangs. Any helpful suggestions? I emailed a complaint to Symantec, no response. I'm running XP.
HP probook 4525s
Tigerdirect has a sweet deal on a HP 4525 probook for $399. I have an AMD X920 quad core S1 mobile CPU (engineering sample) and im wondering if anyone knows wether or not the HP will handle it ok.
I checked HP's website and it looks like the laptop supports other AMD quad cores mobile cpu's such as the P940 ...so the only reservation is going from a 25w to 45w cpu.
My last laptop was a gateway P-7815u and i swapped it from a 25w P7350 to a 45w X9100 cpu and it worked fantastic (really regret selling it actually).
If no one chimes in, im probably just going to order it tomorrow and see what happens.

I have a VGN-AR760U which comes, like all AR, with two HDD bays. As far as I know all other AR allow the two HDDs to be configured as a raid (0 or 1) but for some reason unknown, this particular model has no "Raid Configuartion" in the Advanced menu of the bios... I believe all AR 7xx (and even older or more recent ARs) have essentially the same motherboard, so the raid functionality might be just disabled through some register in the BIOS...
Problem is: There is no BIOS update for the later AR, so I cannot extract the .WPH file from it to analyze it and the backup I made with BIOS backup Toolkit seems to be "incomplete" in comparison to and older AR BIOS (mine is R2080J8)...
Has anybody ever successfully managed to reintegrate a backup bios to reflash it?
Has anybody crossflashed a BIOS from a later AR?
What is the "latest" AR BIOS out there? Anybody with a 890?

Windows vista default language problem
When I installed windows vista on my labtop, i wrongfully select urdu language and now after installation, when I use office (microsoft word, powerpoint etc), my default cursor starts at right side instead of left. I have tried to change its setting through control panel and regional and language settings but could not succeeded. How can I change this default language setting.
Aspire 5745G Has LCD Issue
There is what looks like a thin white grid over my entire screen. It doesn't appear to be the GPU because if I connect another monitor it is fine. And it isn't software because it happens in the BIOS screens and on a linux liveCd.
I'm guessing it is a loose LCD cable.
Anyone else familiar with this problem?
Will I void my warranty if I open it open and reconnect the LCD cable? I'm under warranty for 9 months. I'm just trying avoid having to ship the thing across the country for an issue I can solve.
Also anyone know the turn around time for a warranty repair? And are there any shops that are affiliated with Acer than I can drop it off myself, or is it all mail in fix?

Corby Plus widgets not working (cell phone)
I bought the Corby plus today and it has a sidebar with widgets on it. I can scroll through them, but I tap on one and nothing. It's a brand new phone so that's why I'm so confused. If anybody can help me that would be GREAT! Thanks! 
New CPU for my laptop
Hey first post on the site. Im looking for a good CPU to put into my HP g60 notebook. Mainly to play games on Mainly World of warcraft i am currently only getting like 20 FPS with everything on low. and am wondering if all Desktop CPU's are compatible with it or what i need to look for. have a nice fan on the way for it to comensate with any extra heat Intel Core i7-870 Lynnfield is the CPU i was looking at buy i have no idea how to tell if it's compatible. NO SOUND FROM MY DELL PC...
I'm having trouble getting any sound to come from my PC. I've got a DELL OPTIPLEX 745. It's got Windows XP Professional installed (Intel Core 2 Duo), and manufactured 06/07. The motherboard is a Dell 05/06. The only numbers I can see relating to a model number on it, is on a small white sticker and labeled: CN-0MM599-13740-73S-02OW.
A brief summary on what's been done on the PC: It recently got a virus, but was taken care of. Because the virus did a real number on my system, it was decided to just reformat the whole thing and start over; and I did. Windows XP Professional was reinstalled again. I had no problems with sound at all before this. Now that I've reinstalled XP again, I've got no sound at all. I've no sound card on the computer. It's built into the motherboard. I've tried everything, including the troubleshooting, etc.
I just read someone else's thread about a similiar problem. In his case, he had a Sound Blaster Live! card and he was instructed to try downloading the driver again for the motherboard. Should I try this as well? And if so, will I lose any information and how do I go about doing so?
I'd appreciate any help offered..any suggestions.

vaio S video driver reinstall
A couple of days ago I uninstalled and reinstalled the intel graphics driver to get a program to work, and it worked. Except now I can't control the brightness of the screen back-light. When I use the hot-key I get the little graphic that shows the level change but it doesn't do anything.
Is there some other way to change the brightness? And which program/driver would I have to reinstall to fix the hotkeys? I've tried several from the website but with no luck.

Dell XPS 15 - Port Replicator with HDMI
I am waiting for my Dell XPS 15 (1080p) to arrive and am looking at my options for port replicators since Dell is no longer producing docking stations for the XPS models It is upsetting that I have not been able to find any port replicators which connect to the laptop via HDMI rather than USB. Am I right or wrong to assume that connecting to a port replicator via USB 2.0, which then connects to a TV via HDMI will not be able to process the full 1080p signal??? I would like a port replicator (would really like a docking station) that I can use to connect to my HDTV and not lose any image/sound quality. Am I incorrect to think that USB will pose an issue, or is this a marketing void? I may just need to connect the HDMI to the TV manually each time I connect if there's not a product available, but it would be much more convenient if I could just drop it in and have all my accessories, image/audio and charging ready to go. 8940G overheating
My 8940 is a little over 1 years old now, and it's heart-breaking to see it shutdown due to overheating in games like NBA2k11. I know it's over-heating when I see my GPU going 99oC. I have sent it in for repairs but still the same problems, and the technicians broke the powersmart button and the USB port close to there.
I am using a cooler, and no I haven't done any dusting of the vents. However, I was assured by the tech rep at Acer that my laptop will be cleaned when they examine it. What else can I do?

Replacing power source for laptop?
So as I was replacing the LCD screen for my laptop, I must've ripped the cord that is part of the power supply. I am really bad with computers and this was the first time I took apart my computer on my own.
I'm not talking about the AC adaptor that connects to the wall. I'm talking about the wire that connects to the button you press to turn on the laptop. How serious is this damage? How much will it cost to replace it?

CD Problem
I am trying to install software onto my computer and when I insert the cd into the DVD drive nothing happens automatically so I click start, then click run. In the open box I type J;SETUP and then OK. It says to insert CD. I already have CD loaded. What is the problem? Thanks for any and all help.

If i get a webcam with a mic built in will the mic still work even if the cam isn't being used.For instance,on yahoo messenger if i am not on a video call(only voice call) will the mic be operating so i can use voice call or must I keep my other mic plugged in?Or if I am using recording software to record myself playing piano will the webcam mic be functioning even thought i don't have the cam turned on.Will I have to plug in my normal mic.I hope you see what I am trying to ask.Thank you.
Having severe/annoying issues with BD-P3600

I am witnessing the following problems with my BD-P3600.
0. Under normal operations... odd delay in start up... I get the players start screen, but it is frozen for a few seconds, then plays the start tone, and allows access...
1. PC Streaming settings do not "stick". I have to go to network search EVERYTIME, choose manual and confirm all of the settings that are there just to get access to that folder. Very annoying issue.
2. SEVERE PROBLEM: Unit "sort of" locks up (2nd time for same symptoms).. basically
2.a the door to the unit refuses to open or close.
2.b trying to access PC Streaming / NetFlix, etc results in a message similar to "Please close the disc tray" (can't remember the exact phrase).
2.c can turn the unit on and off and beeps for the buttons when pressed, but most features will not work (i.e. DVD/Blu-ray since the door won't open, NetFlix, PC Streaming, etc
Any ideas or assistance?
Also to Mr Samsung Tech, there seems to be enough reports on here such that Samsung should be considering a new firmware update, to improve the stability and fix bugs (perhaps even give more online tools to those that grabbed their first generation of online players). Can you tell us if something is in the works?
Kind of frustrating seeing the dearth of updates / improvements from Samsung to correct the issues (based on the forums/reviews).... I am actually going to be putting a Home Theater together later this year, I was seriously considering the tv + bluray being Samsung, but am having to seriously think about Vizio or Sony, unless some good response to issues are forth coming from Samsung.

Studio 15, touchpad problem
Hi all. I have got studio 1535. After a couple of days I noticed that my mouse cursor is moving very erratic. E.G. If you touch touchpad and move cursor in circle it's like jaming / stopping every 5 seconds for 0.5 sec.
I have done diagnostic, I reinstalled vista,Ubuntu, XP still this same.
I compared with other studio15 and the problem is the same.
Any ideas??

Very annoying FPS problem with Asus G60VX?
What's up everyone, I bought the refurbished Asus G60VX from NewEgg during the summer, it's been absolutely perfect until I got the new WoW expansion. I've been playing sc2 for the past few months and it ran perfect, almost everything on ultra with no problems. I stopped playing wow for a few months but I never had fps problems with it before on high settings. When I started playing Cataclysm, I noticed that the FPS was really low, and the game was very choppy even on low or high settings.
I went ahead and reformated the computer and it seemed to fix all the fps issues. I was able to put the game back on high and didn't experience any problems. For some reason though, a few days after I reformated the laptop, I started getting these very small fps spikes. The fps will fall from for example, 50 to 40 then back up to 50 within seconds, and it will just start a cycle of these fps spikes; it seems like the comp is having hiccups. It's VERY annoying and I just can't seem to figure out why the computer started doing it. It doesn't happen when I start the game, just randomly and sometimes I can just minimize then it will stop, but not always. I did reformat it one more time but it still does it. It seems to do it on most games as well now.
I checked the temps and they seem normal. When nothings going on the CPU is around 55 C, and GPU is around 80 C. When I play wow, the CPU is around 70 C and GPU is around 99-103 C, depending on whats going on. I used the performance monitor with the game up, and it doesn't seem the CPU maxes out when the spikes happen, they seem to stay around the same through out. I'm at a loss, could I have let it over heat or something, and caused it to go bad? Anyone have any ideas? I'm very worried that all my games are going to start having these fps spikes. Any help/ideas would be greatly appreciated! Thanks

I think my laptop is overheating
My M11x suddenly shuts down as if it ran out of charge. I don't know whats the reason behind that, but it gets EXTREMELY hot and suddenly shuts down, so I think its a overheating issue.
I don't know if this would help, but the laptop only overheats when I game, even keeping it open with out any usage will get it really hot. I didn't used to have this problem, When I play high end games it burns my leg and the game starts to get lower frames.
When I got my M11x, me and my friends bought 6 , and I am the ONLY one experiencing this problem. I love this laptop, I would really appreciate if anyone can help me.

No external audio sound with internet T.V. feed only.
Samsung UN55C8000 T.V. with BD-C6900 Blu-Ray player, running thru an Integra DRT-30.2 receiver. All works perfectly, EXCEPT when watching anything streamed via internet T.V. Then, only can get T.V. audio---external audio does not work. All connected via HDMI cables--tried component cables between Blu-Ray and Receiver--that didn't help. AT&T connection to web. Samsung tech support couldn't solve....Help!

Is there a way to toggle the screen on and off?
I'm have my VAIO hooked up to a big ViewSonic monitor, and often don't use the screen on the laptop, so would like to know if there's a way to toggle the laptop screen on and off. Just trying to save a little energy and keep the computer cooler. I'm looking for something that does more than just dim the screen the way the F5 and F6 keys do.

Acer Aspire 6930 screen replacement
I have an Acer aspire 6930G home theatre system. The screen has been cracked and needs to be replaced. Can anyone help with either instruction on how to remove the screen.

Which virtual machine would be the best for running a 32bit XP inside it on a 7 HP 64bit?

Help, XPS L501X Hot Left Palm Rest gets too HOT!
Hey guys, I just recieved by XPS 15 last week...
1080p Screen / i7 840 / 8gb ram / gt 435m 2gb / 9 cell battery
But the left palmrest is just uncomfortably hot, and my hand gets real sweaty. The idle temp is low 50s for CPU and high 40s for GPU, and when I'm playing SC2 the CPU core and GPU get to a max temp of 92 C.
But regardless, I've ready a lot of reviews and people comments regarding the XPS, and it seems general consensus is that the left palm rest gets warm and whatnot, but I feel like mine is too hot. I have the 9 cell battery, which should get better venting since it's propped up. It's causing my hand to get sweaty and just annoying that I don't feel like playing for too long. Even with a cooling pad (not the diesel Zalman one, but a decent one with just one fan) it's still uncomfortable. I've read a lot of posts in which people state that the palm rest gets barely hot and just overall the laptop runs fairly cool. Maybe I'm just fussing, but how hot does the palm rest get for you guys? I know it's a subjective question..
Laptop replacement isn't a possibility, since it seems that they are completely out of the 1080p screens. Overall the laptop is great, but I don't think I can keep on dealing witht he heat. I'm thinking of just returning the laptop, as it is within my 21 days, and waiting for the sandy bridge chips to come out. Maybe, they'll put a better gfx card in the computer.

Sony laptop is making LOUD, SHARP noises?
I only had this F1190X laptop for 3 months, and now it's making super annoying noises.
It's not the common microphone issue that can be disabled.
The noise generates around the fan area where it come and goes every few seconds. It's not constantly making the noise, but will unexpectedly start whistle and stops, start and stop and continues.
I searched online but found no answer except to clean the fan, I used air spray can and even opened it and it was not that dusty. But the high pitch noise is still there. It won't stop whistling.
Does anyone know what is the problem and how to fix it?

G73 Power Plug Broken, need quick fix

Sadly, my G73's power plug seems to be broken. It is loose in the socket and not charging the unit. My friends power supply (he has the same model), charges the unit normally. I am ordering the Targus replacement trough Centrix, but I won't get it for a few days, and in the meantime I wanted to mend the cable. Does anyone know what model replacement connector I could get at Radioshack or Microcenter that I could splice to the unit as a temporary fix? I'd prefer to replace the original rather than stripping the plastic off and trying to solder the connection.

Missing file problem anyone?

This could be my paranoia... as I am new to Vista and not used to with the changes from my most favorite OS of Microsoft of XP.
It seems like my one WORD file I created and saved is missing.
Just 5 mins ago when I looks at the folder I saved this file I saw it, but now it's GONE.
I use search and searched it but couldn't find.
Just couple days ago when I tried to "save the file as..." similar thing happened. I didn't lose anything that time but you know when you try to save files, you see the location where you want to save. I simply couldn't find the "folder"I newly created. So I don't remember exactly what I did but I think I aborted "save as..." operation, left the file unsaved but left it open, then looked for the folder I just created, it was there. But it wasn't shown on the option of "save as..".
Anyone having similar problem?
Or is this just my paranoia...?

HP G61 Charging issue
Basically something happened yesterday to my laptop and it hasn't been right since. When I plug in the AC adaptor, the little light where the jack is won't turn on at all.
Also, the LED light will only go on sometimes and will charge and then stop. It will then randomly decide to continue to charge after a period of time.
Now, even when the LED light is off the battery will stay a certain level like 32% as it is now. When I check the battery icon it won't say it is charging even when it is - know by the LED light.
I have checked support assistant but it says that the ac adaptor isn't plugged in even when the LED light is on.
Please help.

On startup, Powermac G5 stuck in apple logo window
Unit starts, but stays stuck in apple logo with status wheel continuously spinning. Also, fans gradually go on to full power. I swapped the hard drive with another which I knew was good, but same problem. Out of about 12 tries, it did push through to the desktop at which time I ran diskwarrior, repaired permissions, zapped the pram, reset PMU, & did an erase & re-install of Tiger. On restart the same problem returned. Just a spinning status wheel on the opening apple logo window, with the racing fans.
Other functions work such as target mode, starting in single user mode, & startup option ( holding down option key) which shows the hard drive, but never goes any further than the spinning wheel.
Is this a logic board problem or what other possible reason would cause this?

Numbering playlist tracks.
iTunes won't list my tracks chronologically once they get past 9. I have a lecture series that has 30 tracks in it and when I number them from 1-30 as soon as iTunes sees another 1, like at the beginning of all the numbers from 10-19, it puts them after the number 1, and then moves onto the number 2. It's a real drag and other than alphabetizing the first 9 numbers I'm at a loss of what to do. Is there somewhere in preferences I can have it recognize two-digit numbers properly? Thanks.

P7230 upgrades
I see that the LeoG forum has gone, it was a good little specialist forum for Fujitsu P series ultraportables. I thought i would note down the upgrades that i have done recently and post some benchmarks.
Anyway in July 08 i bought a pink P7230 core solo 1.2, 1GB, CD Drive, 60GB 4200, 3945ABG from the US as a gift for someone in my family.
In the end the core solo processor and 4200 HD proved to be just too slow.
I had the core solo processor removed and fitted with a U7600 (U7600 is the max that it will support). I also added 2GB, DVD Supermulti, a 5300 wifi card, WWAN and a 128GB V4 Photofast drive. As you would expect the laptop feels transformed. It cost me 110 to have the processor upgraded. I bought a defective TZ motherboard for 26 and the processor was removed from that board. I reflashed the BIOS to make sure that the BIOS was seeing the CPU properly. I've also upgraded to W7 Professional 32bit.
I had the motherboard changed about a year ago under warranty. This laptop is under warranty until 2011 and i just actually sent it in last week to have the casing replaced for free. I sent it with all the upgrades and they never said a thing. Of course you can buy U7600's motherboards on ebay now but i wanted to keep the original one and serial number. Fujitsu Siemens international support continues to be excellent. They had the casing shipped from the US in less a week and told me to wait until it arrived to send it in. They sent UPS to me when it arrived and they got the laptop last Friday and i had back on Tuesday and this is in Germany and i'm in the UK.
First of all i opted for a 64GB V2 Photofast drive and then for storage space reasons upgraded to the V4 drive. I got the drive from Photofast UK and i got a 20 discount on the drive.
I also got a sim card holder soldered to the motherboard. I sent the laptop to vaiorefurbs on ebay to do that. I fitted the antenna in the bezel myself and got the wwan parts from a donar laptop. It is better to stick with cards that Fujitsu use and i used a MC8780.
I think you can buy the wwan board here.
The new cpu runs cooler than what it did with the core solo processor. I'm also using the copper heatsink with ICD7.
It is a lovely little laptop, shame that i cannot get the fingerprint reader working lol.
With tweaking battery life is outstanding over 12hrs with the standard and internal battery at 30% brightness.
The signal is very strong now as you would expect. I added a 3rd antenna and just stuck it on top of the heatsink. It seems to pull up a better signal than what i get with my TT with a half mini 5300 with the 3rd antenna located in the bezel.
I tried to look into overclocking but may be i was using the wrong settings but i couldn't get that to work. The PLL code for this laptop is ICS9LPR311BKLF. I will try again and if i get anywhere i will edit. It should be able to overlock to 1.33ghz-1.4ghz easily but the person who owns this won't go that extra mile lol. I know though that some people are interested in overclocking their P7230's.
It's all the extra touches like the modular dvd drive/internal batteries that make me like this laptop. It also looks pretty cute in white as well.
This laptop should last a couple of years now for the purposes that it is used for.

As you would expect the laptop feels transformed. It cost me 110 to have the processor upgraded. I bought a defective TZ motherboard for 26 and the processor was removed from that board. I reflashed the BIOS to make sure that the BIOS was seeing the CPU properly. I've also upgraded to W7 Professional 32bit.
I had the motherboard changed about a year ago under warranty. This laptop is under warranty until 2011 and i just actually sent it in last week to have the casing replaced for free. I sent it with all the upgrades and they never said a thing. Of course you can buy U7600's motherboards on ebay now but i wanted to keep the original one and serial number. Fujitsu Siemens international support continues to be excellent. They had the casing shipped from the US in less a week and told me to wait until it arrived to send it in. They sent UPS to me when it arrived and they got the laptop last Friday and i had back on Tuesday and this is in Germany and i'm in the UK.
First of all i opted for a 64GB V2 Photofast drive and then for storage space reasons upgraded to the V4 drive. I got the drive from Photofast UK and i got a 20 discount on the drive.
I also got a sim card holder soldered to the motherboard. I sent the laptop to vaiorefurbs on ebay to do that. I fitted the antenna in the bezel myself and got the wwan parts from a donar laptop. It is better to stick with cards that Fujitsu use and i used a MC8780.
I think you can buy the wwan board here.
The new cpu runs cooler than what it did with the core solo processor. I'm also using the copper heatsink with ICD7.
It is a lovely little laptop, shame that i cannot get the fingerprint reader working lol.
With tweaking battery life is outstanding over 12hrs with the standard and internal battery at 30% brightness.
The signal is very strong now as you would expect. I added a 3rd antenna and just stuck it on top of the heatsink. It seems to pull up a better signal than what i get with my TT with a half mini 5300 with the 3rd antenna located in the bezel.
I tried to look into overclocking but may be i was using the wrong settings but i couldn't get that to work. The PLL code for this laptop is ICS9LPR311BKLF. I will try again and if i get anywhere i will edit. It should be able to overlock to 1.33ghz-1.4ghz easily but the person who owns this won't go that extra mile lol. I know though that some people are interested in overclocking their P7230's.
It's all the extra touches like the modular dvd drive/internal batteries that make me like this laptop. It also looks pretty cute in white as well.
This laptop should last a couple of years now for the purposes that it is used for.

I bought a gx640 this summer, and now I'm going to reformat it and start taking better care of it.
Is there anything special I need to know about it before I do? I've never reformatted a laptop, and i know it probably doesn't make a difference, but why chance it?

Config : T7700 Core 2 Duo (2.4 Ghz Processor), Nvidia 1600m, WUXGA screen.
I was wondering what are the normal temperatures on this machine ? When totally idle using Core Temp utility it shows around 55 - 60 Celsius temperature / core. When i kick it with a heavy game it goes sometimes even at 90 degrees celsius. I could even shut it down while playing Mass Effect for some time (i belive it's reaching the 100 degrees threshold). So in order to avoid this i use the Windows 7 feature (Maxim processor state) and set the processor speed to 80%-85%. Now, the laptop always sits on a Zalman Notebook Cooler NC2000 so i'm guessing this helps too.
What are my options here ? I'm thinking about opening the laptop...clean it a bit and change the thermal paste (CPU and GPU) with Arctic Cooling 5 (i understood the factory paste used by HP is pretty bad). I could also upgrade the T7700 processor to a T9300 (wich i read it's way cooler).

I have a LG R-580-K.AHC4WA9. My web cam stop working and I can't find it in my device manager. I saw on this forum that someone had the same problem with an other model of laptop LG, and got the problem solve by hitting fn+f10. This is the way to activate the webcam on that model, but not on mine.
Can anyone tell me what are the keys, to press to solve the problem or any other ways to solve the problem.

Samsung Q310 HDMI Problem
ive connected it to the tv through hdmi and it came up on the laptop to configure it which i did but the tv just says no signal when i select hdmi!

Hard Drive Alignment
I just bought a new hard drive for my laptop. It's a 500 GB Western Digital Black drive. As far as I can tell, this drive does not require the new alignment that some of the newer drives require. I am planning on triple booting Windows XP Pro, Windows 7 Pro and Ubuntu 10.10. I am partitioning my drive with the Ubuntu Live CD. The Ubuntu Live CD wants to create partitions that are aligned to MiB by default instead of by cylinder. For the Windows XP partition I changed that to cylinder and then for all the other partitions I allowed it to use the default MiB setting. Am I going to experience problems doing it this way? I would like to be able to access data that Windows 7 saved with Windows XP. Any help would be appreciated.

I'm using a benq joybook s73g. 2-3months ago the laptop starts to auto shutdown when i'm playing my computer games. Until recently these problem is getting more serious as my laptop will auto shutdown before it manage to enter into the windows.

Help from European 8943G Owners
We've been trying to figure out a few things in several other threads here in regards to the 8943G. Several of us in the US are trying to install a second hard drive in the compartment for it (towards the front on the left side if you are typing). The problem is that with the hard drive installed, the cover no longer fits - there is a gap. We know that some of the European models come with two hard drives already installed, so...
(1) Is there a different plate that covers the second hard drive space? If so, could someone please post a picture?
(2) Is the computer arranged differently internally?
(3) Or...is there some kind of slimmed down HD that fits in there???

How "fragile" are the unibody macbook pros?
I know the iphone is fragile as hell so everybody has all this protection for it but what about the macbook pro? I see it kind of odd to want to cover up that kind of beauty with a skin, but having never owned one, not really sure.

There is probsbly a reason Nvidia has not officially released these for Optimus yet. USE THESE AT YOUR OWN RISK AND WATCH FOR ANY POTENTIAL HEAT OR STABILITY ISSUES. I want to thank everyone who has contributed to putting these together and testing these. This driver package was created by combining Optimus settings and update files from 260.99 Verde with the 265.90 Quadro drivers. This means it is not a full 256.90 Optimus driver in any sense of the term. There are also new dlls registered for optimusmft (the assumption is they are similar to nvdecodemft) they are experimental and may be removed if there are problems. I am most appreciative of everyone contributions on this one. DaneGRClose has done some very extensive testing and he and THX5334 have confirmed no punkbuster issues for at least a few matches prior to posting this.

HDD writing problem

I've got an external HDD formatted in NTSC that worked fine on my Macbook (i've got NTSC-3G installed) and on windows laptops, until I accidentally unplugged it without ejecting on my mac. Now, the drive is read-only on macs and readable an writable on a PC. I tried repairing permissions in disk utility but all the buttons (repair, repair permissions, verify..) are disabled, I can't get my macbook to write on that drive anymore! Has someone got an idea to fix this problem? I'm lost. Thank's!

My XBox automatically shuts down! Help!!

Does the XBox automatically shut down after a while if you are not connected the Audio-Video cable to the TV? because today I noticed it , it automatically shut down several times while I am connecting it to the PC, but I did not connect it to the TV, only plugged in the AC and turned it on.....

Blue screen ntoskrnl.exe
I have a Dell Gx400 running Windows 2000 (sp4). I am blue screening the computer when i attach anything to a usb port which is recoginized as a mass storage device (ie any usb hard drives, and/or ipod,) this machine uses usb ports fine for a pda, 2 printers and a scanner. The blue screen is a "Page_fault_in_non_paged_area" 8044d67d base at 80400000 datestamp 40d1d183 - ntoskrnl.exe can anyone help on this. I have uninstalled and reinstalled all usb drivers. This error is for onboard usb ports as well as the USB 2.0 hub i have installed. Help!!!

My new laptop is facing problems - unexpected shutdown in the Windows 7 64 bit. Every time when I leave my laptop before it goes to standby, it will automatically shut down and then restart. It will ask me to start in the normal mode or in the safe mode. After booting up, it shows me a pop-up window with a message "windows has recovered from an unexpected shutdown."

Newly Built Desktop Not Turning On - Green Mobo Light Only

I just built a new desktop and wired everything together and turned the power on. The only thing that turned on is the "Stand by" LED(green) on the motherboard. The fans are not running and when I connected the monitor to the DVI port, it does not detect a signal.
I'm not sure what to do. I'm thinking that the "Power SW" is DOA from the case, but how can I be sure?
Any help would be appreciated.

Ubuntu 10.10 Live CD changes BIOS clock
I have a Samsung R480 with Phoenix SecureCore BIOS. I set the BIOS clock to the correct time. I then run the Ubuntu 10.10 Live CD (the CD is valid, no errors), and I believe it sets the default Operating System clock to UTC, rather than EST like it should be. It seems to pull my BIOS clock time and add on 5 hours.
Then, after I remove the Live CD, restart the computer, and go into the BIOS, the BIOS clock is changed too!
I thought a Live CD was to make NO changes to the computer at all, including the BIOS of all things.
Is this normal? Is Linux supposed to be able to do this?

OS9 driver software for Keyspan SX Pro PCI card

I've tried Tripp Lite, the company that bought Keyspan and they say that this card was made before they acquired the company so they don't have it. my small viewer (at the right hand panel) suddenly became a widescreen mode rather than a full screen - means there is a gray area at the top of the bottom of the screen.
it does not improve if i change the viewer size at the Windows pull down manual.
No improvement even i reinstall the imovie and remove the preference .plist in the library.

No improvement even i reinstall the imovie and remove the preference .plist in the library.

Office 2008 vs. iWork
I finally made the switch to Mac! My Mac mini is floating on a truck somewhere right now. I need to buy an office program. I was thinking about iWork because of the price. Will iWork play nice with Microsoft Office files as far as import and export?

I am trying to create a formula where it adds numbers up in a column only when the cell next to the cell containing the number has a pacific word in it.
Is there any way of doing this in iwork?

Refurbished Airport Extreme
I am looking to switch routers from the D Link I currently use to a refurbished Airport Extreme from the Apple store (purely for price reasons). I have had good success with refurbished computers in the past but have never purchased a refurbished router. Has anyone used a refurbished Airport Extreme? If so how did it perform? Any advice?
