Hello mkatz1488,

please upload the (preferably compressed) installation log file to some online storage service and provide us with a link to it. We will analyze it and suggest further steps.

Hello mkatz1488,

analysis of the provided log files showed that the installation is failing when trying to launch the AVG Firewall service. Do you have any other security product installed? Previous logs showed problems while installing AVG Security Toolbar, but this has been obviously worked-around by not installing the toolbar.

- Please install all available operating system updates first.
- Clean up the system using avgremover available here. Make sure to run it as administrator and let it finish its run (it may look inactive for some time).
- Then, restart the system and try to install AVG using the most recent installation package downloaded from http://www.avg.com/download.

In case the issue would persist, please provide us with the most recent installation log files together with an Autoruns output.

Please note that you can contact AVG technical support as you are using AVG paid product. They have more tools to help you with this situation.

Thank you.

Unable to reinstall free AVG. Same problem as mentioned by Mkatz1488

Foutcode: 0xC0070743
Writing config value failed (0xC00736B1)
Context: MSI action failed

Also the trial version failed to install with same error report.
I run Windows XP Home with service pack 3.
I took the liberty of uploading the required logs etc.

Hello Kaila36,

Please try to follow full reinstallation instructions.

If you are still unable to install afterwards, please provide us with both msi* and mfa* installation log files.

Thank you

Carried out as instructed but the same result: MSI failed. Loaded up a 7zip file.

Fingers crossed....;-)

Hello Kaila36,

Please run AVG remover as linked in the full reinstallation instructions and also manually check for existence of listed folders.

Afterwards attempt to install with full installation package instead of download manager.

If the issue persists, provide us with latest msi* and mfa* files. The two .log files are sufficient for analysis, there is no need to provide us with all fresh outputs.

Thank you

Hello Kaila36,

the provided log files indicate that installation of MS Visual C++ redistributable package which requires restart, but AVG setup is not able to perform this restart. Please proceed as follows to rectify the situation:

1. Manually install Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 Service Pack 1 Redistributable Package ATL Security Update:
- Download this software from here.

2. Install the vcredist_x86.exe version which suits your operating system (direct link).

3. Restart the computer.

4. Run AVG installation process again using the offline installation package as described above.

5. In case the installation issue would persist, please provide us with most recent installation log files for further analysis.

Thank you.

Hello Kaila36,

there is no need to apologize. We are sorry for prolonged solution of this issue.

Analysis of the provided log files showed that AVG configuration cannot be written correctly. This issue should have been worked-around by using AVGremover recommended above by Dusan_AVG.

1. Please make sure that all the C:Documents and SettingsAll UsersApplication DataAVG* folders are deleted prior to AVG installation.
- * (asterisk) stands for any number (e.g. "AVG9", "AVG10").
- This folder is hidden by default OS configuration.

2. Please provide us with AVGremover log files created in the same folder the remover was launched from.

3. Kindly include msinfo output as well so we can check your system environment.

Thank you.

Hello,

For your information: Before repairing the Visual C++ and reinstalling AVG 2011 as requested earlier I had already deleted the AVG10 directory and files and ran AVGremover. I uploaded the requested folders/files and also added the AVG10 folder with logs.

Something should turn up eventually....

Hello Kaila36,

the provided msinfo revealed that a older Zone Alarm driver and Sandboxie are installed. Please uninstall both these applications completely, restart the computer and try to install AVG using the avg_free_x86_all_2011_1321a3540.exe installation package released today. You may install them again, after AVG is successfully installed, however I strongly recommend installing their most recent versions. You may also try temporarily uninstall/disable Dialer Detect application.

You have also mentioned that AVG10 folder has been deleted before. I assume you meant the C:Documents and SettingsAll UsersApplication DataAVG10 folder. In the previously provided archive (repair4.7z), there are cache server and AVG log files attached. Where were they gathered from? Their parent folder should have been deleted already, according to your description.

Also, only one AVGremover log has been attached in the provided archive. Running the most recent build of AVGremover utility (avg_remover_stf_x86_2011_1184.exe) should produce two log files: avgremover.log and avgremover_msilog.txt. Please provide us with both these files. (As the issue seems to be caused by broken MSI structures during installation which is handled by specific remover process and logged into the mentioned avgremover_msilog.txt.) The remover may need to finish its run after reboot; if you are presented with a dialogue window asking for running AVG remover after reboot, please confirm it and let it finish all needed tasks.

Thank you.

Uninstalled both ZoneAlarm and Sandboxie. Tried to install AVG with newest off line file. Result is again negative, same error report. I could already tell from the empty installation progress bar that also the new setup file would not lead to a succesfull installation.

The AVG10 logs came from the C:Documents and SettingsAll UsersApplication DataAVG10 folder as you suspected. I moved the folder to the AVGRepair4 zip folder and therefore it was deleted in this way.

The funny thing with AVGRemover is that no msi_log file is generated, only an old one dated from 1 of April is available. Although I had the correct version of the remover I downloaded it again in a separate folder, just to be sure. Also now only a avgremover.log file was created. I am sending this file together with the old msi_log file to you. I included a cab file of the latest effort to install AVG.

Hello AVG Staff,

Like mkatz1488 and Kaila36, I am unable to reinstall AVG Free 2011 on my Windows 7, 64-bit version Sony Vaio. I have tried the full reinstall listed above with no luck. My current error message is as follows:

Severity: Error
Error Code: 0xC0070643

I have uploaded both the mfa & msi compressed files and the AVG installation log files to a storage service. The links are as follows:

Hello bchristi_21,

Analysis of provided logs showed the same error message as Kaila36.

I would like to ask you to check your computer with AVG RescueCD (let it update, when asked).
And if the installation error still persists, please provide us with Gmer and Autoruns outputs in an archive (zip file) for closer analysis.

Thank you

Hello djizzleo902,

analysis of the installation log files revealed that AVG Watchdog cannot be launched. This is often caused by conflicting security software, insufficient hardware resources or an active infection in the system.

1. Please check this AVG Free forum thread for more information about possible conflicting security software and its removal.

2. Then, follow Free forum post #9713 (Windows registry corruption).

3. Make sure that your system meets AVG 2011 HW requirements.

4. If the AVG cannot be still installed, please provide us with an msinfo output and both GMER scan results for analysis.

Thank you.

Hello Kaila36,

the provided logs indicated that some of the AVG components may not have been removed properly for some reason. Please proceed as follows:

1. Download and extract the MsiZap.zip archive to C:AVGtemp folder.

2. Run the command line and launch these commands (as Administrator):

cd C:avgtemp
msizap TW {6003F12D-6DAF-4C3F-9FFA-F4A721DC6BBF} > avglog.txt
msizap TW {D4E53304-1F6C-4111-9872-1BCD2CF5B642} >> avglog.txt

3. Run the AVG remover once more and try to install AVG again.

4. In case the installation would fail, please provide us with:
- The created C:avgtempavglog.txt file.
- New AVGremover log files.
- The most recent AVG installation log files (there is no need to provide us with older files/whole CAB archive, a pair of the most recent is sufficient).

Thank you.

Hi,

Finally I succeeded in installing AVG 2011. I had the idea all along that some kind of virus or malware prevented AVG 2011 to be installed. After all it was kicked out suddenly which could indicate a virus or other being present. I Googled and found an anti virus program Immunet. After installing Immunet and letting it scan the entire computer it found quite a number of different types of threats. It crunched for a good 14 hours. Today I uninstalled Immunet, ran the AVG Remover etc. and then opened the off line AVG 2011 package. The progress bar remained empty again but to my surprises at the end it reported that the installation was succesfull! Well, well.

I am sending you the installation logs for you information, including the Immunet Quarantine files. These are not real files, so I donot know whether this usefull. It would be interesting to know which file/virus was the culprit, but may be we will never know..... That would be a pity.

Hello Kaila36,

we are happy to hear that you resolved the issue. Unfortunately, I was not able to download Immunet quarantine. Brief analysis of the provided process monitor log does not show known infection.

Thank you for coming back on forum and letting us know.

Reply 24 : AVG 2011 MSI engine failed to install product

No, the Process Monitor's log was taken from the succesfull installation, so nothing will show up. Just for information. Should only have thought of this before, during all the unsuccessfull installations..... The new edition of AVG 2011 is quite and impressive improvement. Thank you.

Regards and all the best.
