Help with connection to Netflix using an LG BD550

My problem now is with trying to connect to Netflix via my bluray.

As I type here, I'm on hold with LG (I have a BD550) trying to resolve the issue. Netflix website is asking me for a code I don't have. LG customer svc. is walking me through the process of getting the code but they're no help. The only code the unit gives is too long (according to Netflix) and they, LG, say the only way to get this code is through the unit itself. Anyone has had this problem before? Thanks.

The Cnet Samsung forum has many such reports. It's not just Samsung but most makes that can have this issue. Seems all this is not ready for the market.

Ok, so, I cannot update firmware or use youtube/netflix, etc (BD550).

I got the BD550 to be able to watch Netflix movies on TV, however, the Youtube and Picassa features are nice too.

Anyway, simply put I cannot use Netflix. First issue is I'm not getting the activation code I need to activate my player to stream movies. I called Netflix first and gave them the only number I get from:

Network/Netflix/Netflix ESN/LGE-BD561-00088156 (<=this is the number) [OK]

Netflix said that number was too long. That the number should be like 5 or 6 digits long. Called LG. Explained the issue. Did several things, among them, deactivating Netflix and activating it again. Nothing. Spent an hour with them. While troubleshooting, the call center guy realized that I had the wrong firmware update. Tried updating it via Bluray player and nothing. Yes, I am connected to the Internet (hard wired), but it's not updating. I get the message:

Cannot find an update. Retry after checking the network condition. If it is impossible even after that, call the Service Center.

The guy took me to the LG website to download the update. (I have a mac, the LG guy seems to think this is an issue.) I downloaded the update. Put it in my USB flash drive as a zip file as I was instructed. He told me to download the first update of the three that were on the site. Ok, I did, put it in the flash drive, plugged the drive to the bluray and nothing. It doesn't show. Nothing that is not a picture file or a movie file will show. Then I burned it to a CD, nothing. It ejects it.

Anyway, I don't know what to do. The LG guy took my address and said he would send me a CD with the upgrade, but I don't want to wait.

I spent an hour with the LG service center and they were no help. Can someone please help me? I'm not a very technical guy, but I'm usually able to solve these kinds of issues. Please, please, help me.

Thank you.

or maybe 88156 or 088156.

Thanks, ahtoi. Yes, I tried that, with one, two, and even three zeros (and the whole number) preceding the 88156 and nothing. I don't know what else to do.

More money in your pocket. It's their job to make thing easy for us if they want our business.

Ahtoi, I see what you're saying, but, if anything, it's LG's loss. It is on their end that I cannot get the code to enter on the Netflix site to activate my streaming account. Netflix needs to know what equipment (there are several) I'm using to stream their movies. LG claims that I cannot get the code from them, from a person, an LG representative. They say I can only get it from "the machine" itself. They say they cannot give it to me. I'm only going to wait a few more days and then return the item and move on to something else.

you tell them you are using more than one machine for your account? Could that be a problem or is that ok (just wondering)?

You are looking in the wrong place for your Netflix Code. You need to be under the net cast menu seen here. You'll get a 5 alpha-numeric code under the netfix setup.

Capejd, thanks for your response, unfortunately that way doesn't work either. When I try to do it the way you suggest, it asks me if I'm a member of Netflix, I say yes, then it tries to access it and tells me it can't connect.

which plan do you have..1 disc, 2 discs, or 3 discs? If it's one disc, then only one device can be connected.

Reply 14 : Help with connection to Netflix using an LG BD550

4 discs. I don't think that matters, though. I've had 4 movies at home and have still been able to stream movies to watch (on my computer).

Reply 15 : Help with connection to Netflix using an LG BD550

1 disc plan, one device can be use only. 2 discs, 2 devices, and so on. I would definitely complain to Netflix in your case, if you can't access their system with more than 1 device.

What I mean by devices is it could be BD player, Game console, a media player, computer, etc. So with a 4 discs plan, you could be streaming 4 different video to 4 different rooms at the same time (providing your broadband can handle that many). This has nothing to do with the number of discs you checked out already.

Understood, ahtoi, however, I don't think the problem (at least for now) is at Netflix's end. I can't get the access number they (Netflix) needs for me to access their movies/site. That number comes from LG (my player).

The problems don't stop there. I can't access ANY of the other features my player supposedly offers. I can't access the weather on the Weather Channel, or YouTube ("Congestion" problem).

I couldn't even update my player. LG had to send me a disc to do so. I updated it and then ... nothing. Still doesn't work.

I may have to return this player and get anther one.

I'm accepting recommendations.

the internet (or the router not talking to player maybe). Where is the break..I have no idea. Good luck on the new one. Hope that's what it is.

When I run the test it says I have a connection. It says I'm connected to the internet.

I have a BD 550.

Reply 20 : Help with connection to Netflix using an LG BD550

How do you have your blu-ray player connected to your PC? what kind of cable are you using for the connection? and, how do you have your blu-ray player connected to your TV?

Reply 21 : Help with connection to Netflix using an LG BD550

Blu-ray is not connected to the computer.

Ethernet (hardwired).

With an HDMI cable.

Reply 22 : Help with connection to Netflix using an LG BD550

Maybe you should try setting up your present account with Netflix again by deleting it and then opening it up again. If you do this, then your blu-ray player will automatically generate a new activation code for the new account. The Netflix code is a five-character alpha-numeric activation code that you must type into your account to activate your device(blu-ray player). The code will appear on the Netflix screen of your TV once you have opened up your account at the Netflix website and turned on your blu-ray player for the connection to be made. If this doesn't work and you still can't connect to Netflix, then it's possible that you have either a problem with your network cable or the router port that you have the cable connected to. You said you ran a test to see if you had connection to the internet. Was that a test you ran on your PC? or was it a test that you ran on your blu-ray player to see if it was connecting to the router?

Reply 23 : Help with connection to Netflix using an LG BD550

I've done what you suggest and it doesn't work.

The test I run via my player. I know the computer connection works because I'm writing to you on it.

When I go to the Netflix site (I already am a Netflix member; I have been for many years), it asks me for the activation number I cannot get via the player.

I don't know what else to do.

Reply 24 : Help with connection to Netflix using an LG BD550

You must try to re-create your account by closing the one you have now and then opening it up a new one as if you were a brand new member. Make sure you blu-ray player is turned off when you do it. When you open the fresh new account with Netflix, your blu-ray player should generate a activation number once you turn it on and connect it to Netflix. I had a similar problem myself when I tried using the original activation number from my blu-ray player and it didn't work. So I re-created my Netflix account and the player generated a new number for me and I tried that and it worked. Your player will not give you a number unless you create a new account with Netflix when you first connect your player. If you are already a Netflix member, your blu-ray player will assume that you already have a activation number. That's why you have to redo your account again.

I just received a LG BD 570 and had the very same issue. After battling with the internet connections I had issues with the Netflix activation. I received the long code many are getting. I called Netflix and the lady told me that code had something to do with LG and registration. I registered my player and the code still showed up under the 'Netflix' menu in setup. I did what CapeJD mentioned and went under the Netcast option, clicked netflix, and there was the activation code.

I'm very sorry, but I don't have the information in hand as of right now, but I was also having this same issue with the BD 550. I had gotten it as a gift, and was unable to access the internet for the updates, or for any of the NetCast programs. After my third time calling in to customer support, I decided to ask them where the nearest service and repair center was, so that I could take my computer in for repair. The lady then advised me to input a primary DNS, and a secondary DNS. Once those numbers were entered, and my connection was tested, everything worked like a charm.

I had heard everything from activating the account, to "comcast blocks the netflix ports." It was this that finally worked for me. Call in and ask for a primary, and secondary DNS.

I'm sure this is the wrong thread to post but may affect most of you aswell. Netflix on my BD550 suddenly started crashing on start up. Finally I realized that my instant queue was causing the problem. Apparently if you have over 400 movies in the queue the BD550 has issues loading the software. Just keep the queue under 400 titles and back to movie land! Its amazing how we don't even have to leave our house no mo! I guess thats why blockbuster is goin out of beezneez, vudu is pretty good if you don't feel like leaving to rent a movie. Now the only problem is the soon to come cap on online streaming, thats going to hurt bad. Real bad. Real real bad.

Reply 28 : Help with connection to Netflix using an LG BD550

but 400...that's lot of titles. Mine is never more than 30.
