Software to create slideshow customized with audio clips

Hi, Can anyone recommend a software package or packages, doesn't have to be free, that I can use to create a slideshow with synchronized audio? I first need to excerpt samples from audio formats like mp3, for example take a 15 second cut from a CD, and then use many of these samples as the audio or "soundtrack" to my slide presentation. I'd also like to be able to add text and/or other visual effects to the slides and transitions. So, I'm not sure if I need Audio Editing software, Video Editing software, audio file converter, slideshow software, or some combination of the above? Lastly, I'll want to be able to burn it onto a DVD. Any thoughts greatly appreciated.
